You Better Belize It!
Belize was an adventure. The country was filled with amazing wildlife, diverse landscapes, and adrenaline pumping activities.
Here are 19 of my favorite photos to inspire you to visit this country!
During my ten days in Belize, I visited Burrell Boom, San Ignacio, Hopkins, and Caye Caulker. I effectively covered the entire country in an efficient circle; experiencing a little bit of everything on offer.
Starting in Burrell Boom, I delved head first into Mayan history with a visit to Lamanai. Mayan for submerged crocodile, Lamanai was once a major city of the Mayan civilization. To get here I took a wooden boat up the Belize River viewing monkeys, birds, and crocodiles along the way. At the site, I got to climb up the ancient stone structures and was treated to a bird’s eye view of the surrounding jungle.
Traveling from Burrell Boom to San Ignacio, I visited the Planeterra supported Pottery Co-op in San Antonio. Here, I learned how to make Mayan tortillas by hand and how to make traditional pottery.
Finally, in the northern city of San Ignacio, I explored Crystal Cave, swam in a beautiful blue jungle hole, visited a bountiful food market, and devoured dish after dish of yummy stewed chicken.
From San Ignacio, I moved back down to the coast and visited the sleepy Garifuna town of Hopkins. Here, I learned how to play traditional drums and spent a day out at sea fishing and snorkeling.
Finally, I took a water taxi one hour from Belize City to the small island of Caye Caulker. This was by far my favorite destination in Belize. This tiny island’s charm really got under my skin. From the amazing snorkeling off its coast to the fruity rum punch, I felt completely relaxed here.
Until next time Belize!
