It should come as no surprise to anyone who follows me on Instagram that I love a good hike. Luckily, where I live I have amazing access to a ton of different trails. Which means that if I am not at home I can usually be found outside, on a trail.
But, what is it about hiking that I love so much?
First and foremost, going out for a hike provides me with much needed fresh air. I just cannot stand being inside day after day. I love to get out in the early morning when the air is still and the trails have few people on them. There is just no better way to spend a morning in my opinion.
Hiking is a fantastic full body exercise especially if you are carrying a full day bag. Going up the trail works my thighs and bum, going down the trail works my abs. While maneuvering under or over obstacles (logs, streams, tree roots) works my upper body. I love the burn a difficult hike provides.

Time with Friends
This is probably my favorite part of hiking, spending time with my friends. I am lucky to have a number of friends who enjoy hiking and we often hit the trails together on weekends.
Sense of Accomplishment
Nothing is more thrilling than getting to the top of a mountain. After all the blisters, sweat, and the occasional tear nothing beats finishing a trail. The sense of accomplishment is addicting. And, the motivation I feel afterward bleeds into other areas of my life. Nothing gets a work project done faster than a great motivating hike on the weekend!
Again it should come as no surprise to anyone who reads this blog, that I have a bad case of wanderlust. I love to travel and experience new things. However, I also love spending time at home and working on my career. Basically, I am not going to jump, up quit my job, and explore the world indefinitely anytime soon.
Hiking gives me the sense of exploration I seek and satisfies my wanderlust without an expensive plane ticket.
So, now that you know why I love hiking I want to hear why you love it. Or if you have never hiked before whats stopping you from giving it a try? Leave a comment below.
